Summary

The Sierpiński triangle is one of the most famous fractals in mathematics: a striking geometric pattern created by repeatedly removing smaller triangles from a larger equilateral triangle. Named after the Polish mathematician Wacław Sierpiński, who described it in 1915, the figure displays self-similarity, meaning the same pattern appears no matter how much you zoom in. 

Although it looks complex, it is generated by a simple recursive rule and can even emerge from random processes such as the “chaos game.” Beyond its visual beauty, the Sierpiński triangle has become an important example in fractal geometry, helping mathematicians explore ideas about infinity, dimension, patterns in nature, and the surprising complexity that can arise from simple rules.
