Summary

The article introduces a newly constructed geometric object (nicknamed a “monostable tetrahedron”) with unusual stability properties: unlike ordinary tetrahedra, it is designed so that it always comes to rest in a single preferred orientation when placed on a surface. The work studies how the shape’s mass distribution and geometry can be engineered so that all other orientations are unstable, effectively making it a “single-outcome” 3D object. 
The authors combine geometric construction with physical modeling and simulation to demonstrate that this behavior is robust under realistic conditions, suggesting potential applications in areas where predictable landing orientation is important, such as robotics, space landers, or mechanical design.
