Summary

The MAA Convergence guide describes a unique peer-reviewed online journal dedicated to connecting the history of mathematics with effective mathematics teaching. Since its launch in 2004, the journal has encouraged educators to enrich instruction by showing students how mathematical ideas developed over time and how historical perspectives can deepen conceptual understanding. It publishes a wide range of classroom-oriented materials, including lesson plans, guided readings of original sources, historical problems, teaching modules, research articles, expository papers, and essays.

The journal primarily serves secondary school and university instructors, with an emphasis on topics such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, probability, statistics, differential equations, and linear algebra. Every submission is expected to combine sound historical scholarship with practical classroom applications, making history an active teaching tool rather than simply background information. In addition to articles, Convergence offers valuable resources such as images of historical mathematical texts, biographies, quotations, classroom activities, and reviews, all designed to help teachers create more engaging, meaningful, and historically informed mathematics lessons.
