Summary
Directed by Marc Webb, Gifted (2017) is a drama following Frank Adler (Chris Evans), a former philosophy professor and boat mechanic raising his exceptionally brilliant seven-year-old niece, Mary (Mckenna Grace), following the suicide of her mother, a world-class mathematician. Seeking to honor his sister's wishes, Frank enrolls Mary in a public elementary school so she can experience a normal childhood, but her extraordinary mathematical genius quickly draws the attention of her estranged, overbearing grandmother, Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan).
A bitter court custody battle ensues as Evelyn attempts to force Mary into a high-pressure, specialized academic track, forcing Frank to fight to protect the girl's emotional well-being until a resolution allows Mary to pursue her advanced education while maintaining a happy, balanced life.
