The Pentagon is the official journal of Kappa Mu Epsilon (KME), the U.S. national mathematics honor society, and has been published twice yearly, in May and December, since its first issue in 1941. Created to serve college mathematics students, the journal provides a venue for publishing noteworthy undergraduate mathematical work, much of it written by KME student members and often based on presentations at regional or national conventions. Each issue also contains news about KME chapters and their activities, helping connect members across institutions, as well as a dedicated Problem Corner featuring proposed mathematical problems and submitted solutions. Overall, The Pentagon combines undergraduate mathematical exposition, problem solving, and society news, supporting KME's goal of encouraging interest and achievement in mathematics among college students.
