CoCoA System

CoCoA, short for Computations in Commutative Algebra, is a free computer algebra system designed especially for calculations involving integers, rational numbers, polynomials, ideals, and systems of polynomial equations. Although it is widely used by researchers in computational algebra and algebraic geometry, the software is also suitable for simpler mathematical experimentation.
 It supports exact arithmetic—so fractions are handled without numerical approximation—and can work with extremely large integers using the GMP library. Its main strength is polynomial computation, including factorization, Gröbner bases, elimination, and solving algebraic systems. 

The official CoCoA site provides downloads for CoCoA-5 and CoCoALib, together with manuals, tutorials, talks, books, citation information, announcements, and information about CoCoA schools and conferences. The examples on the site illustrate how algebraic methods can address diverse problems, from solving linear and Diophantine systems to logical puzzles, map colouring, and deriving Heron's formula through polynomial elimination. 

CoCoALib provides much of CoCoA's computational functionality as a software library, making the project useful both as an interactive mathematics environment and as a foundation for developing algebraic software. The Google Sites page has served as the project's new official website since 2024.
