VisualPDE - mklabgr - 10-01-2026 VisualPDE is a free, browser-based platform designed to make partial differential equations (PDEs) more intuitive through real-time, interactive simulations. Instead of studying a PDE only through its algebraic or analytical form, users can directly observe how solutions evolve in space and time and experiment by changing parameters, initial conditions, boundary conditions, equations, and forcing terms. The platform supports a broad range of models in one and two spatial dimensions, including heat and wave equations, fluid dynamics, reaction–diffusion systems, pattern formation, mathematical biology, elasticity, chaos, and quantum mechanics. A major strength of VisualPDE is its potential for mathematics education, research, and scientific communication. Users can interact directly with simulations—for example, by drawing initial conditions with a mouse or touchscreen—and immediately see how the mathematical system responds. The platform provides numerous ready-made examples, tutorials, and “Visual Stories,” while also allowing users to create and share their own simulations through simple URLs. The developers describe it as an attempt to reduce the barrier between abstract mathematical models and intuitive experimentation; the underlying project is open source, freely available, and highly customisable.
