The book develops topology from its basic concepts—topological spaces, open and closed sets, bases, subbases, and continuous mappings—and moves toward more sophisticated topics such as nets and filters, compactness, metrization, complete metric spaces, uniform spaces, and function spaces. Willard treats these subjects systematically, with particular attention to how different notions of convergence and separation interact. A distinctive feature is the division between what the publisher describes as “continuous topology” and more geometric aspects of topology.
