Stand and Deliver [1988] - mklabgr - 07-29-2026 Stand and Deliver [1988] RATING :           Summary Stand and Deliver (1988) is an acclaimed biographical drama that tells the true story of Jaime Escalante (played by Edward James Olmos), a dedicated math teacher at a struggling, predominantly Latino high school in East Los Angeles. Refusing to let his working-class students be written off by the school system, Escalante uses unconventional teaching methods and instills a fierce sense of drive (ganas) to prepare 18 of them to take and pass the rigorous Advanced Placement Calculus exam in 1982.  When testing officials question their sudden high scores and accuse them of cheating, the students prove their mastery by retaking and passing the test a second time, turning the film into a celebrated, culturally significant story about overcoming prejudice through education.
