He graduated from the University of Patras before earning his PhD from the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Mihalis Dafermos. Aretakis completed postdoctoral research at Princeton University and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Mathematics at the University of Toronto.
He gained international recognition for proving a new type of instability on the horizons of extreme black holes, a phenomenon now widely known as the Aretakis instability. RASSIAS Computer Science Demis Hassabis (born 1976) Sir Demis Hassabis is a world-renowned computer scientist, artificial intelligence researcher, and entrepreneur of Greek-Cypriot descent. After completing his undergraduate studies in Computer Science at the University of Cambridge, he earned a PhD in cognitive neuroscience from University College London (UCL).
In 2010, he co-founded DeepMind, an artificial intelligence research laboratory later acquired by Google. Under his leadership, DeepMind achieved major breakthroughs, including AlphaGo and AlphaFold.
AlphaFold transformed structural biology by accurately predicting protein structures at an unprecedented scale, accelerating research in biology and medicine.
